Resisting change due to fear2

Are You Resisting Change Out of Fear?

Changes often intimidate us. Even changes for the better can be frightening. At all costs, we seem to want to maintain the status quo. In today's post, we will address why changes cause us discomfort, why they are necessary, and how to manage the stress they bring.

Why do we resist change? Because it forces us to confront the unknown, and the unknown can be dangerous. Changes thus disrupt our sense of security. Consider a relationship where, for example, a partner is abusive or cruel, and yet, we often feel safer in such a relationship than leaving it. Our lives are predictable, thus, in a sense, safe. We know the routine: the partner comes home, yells, drinks, and then goes to sleep, while our role is fixed—to serve food, clean, and not speak too much to avoid aggravating them. Leaving means choosing change and stepping into an unknown life. Despite the dreadful home situation, it also brings certain benefits, like not having to work, pay bills, or raise children alone.

A similar situation sometimes occurs among our clients whom we help to free from possession by spirits. On one hand, they suffer greatly because they experience spirit possession, but on the other hand, it's difficult for them to embrace change because their subconscious has become accustomed to a life filled with pain. Occasionally, the spirit involved may be someone with whom they had a close connection in life—someone they might have known all their life. Although the presence of the spirit now brings them much pain, it also provides solace because it means a part of our loved one is still with them, not gone entirely.

Are You Resisting Change Out of Fear?

It's toughest to decide to change when the situation isn't dire—meaning we suffer but somehow manage to endure the pain. This is how most people live. Despite their suffering, they prefer enduring it over embracing change. However, as time passes, their suffering intensifies. Why? The universe continually evolves and pushes us to evolve too. The more you suffer, the more motivation you have for change. This doesn’t mean you must suffer greatly to have a better life; often, those who resist change the most suffer the most.

fear of change

We often pray for change, but when the opportunity arises, we flee from it. The worst consequences befall those who receive great opportunities and decide not to take them. Despite the universe's support, due to fear, comfort, laziness, or other reasons, they miss out on these chances. It's no coincidence that their situation then worsens significantly.

There's a wise saying: "Fortune favors the brave." Those who, despite fear, courageously make decisions and are determined to move forward and achieve their goals are greatly supported by what some call good luck, or the universe. They succeed not because they are fearless, but because they find the strength to face changes despite their fears.

Take Control of Your Life

If you're suffering, don’t wait for the situation to resolve itself. Take life into your own hands and think about what you need to change. Stop blaming others or anything else for your misfortune. You are the master of your fate. Your life reflects your inner thoughts.

If large changes intimidate you, start with the smaller ones. Your intuition will guide you on what to tackle first. Maybe it's something that constantly comes to mind, and you shoo it away like an annoying fly.

Let go of your attachments to things, people, situations, places. This doesn’t mean you should become uncaring or ignorant. It’s about becoming more flexible and not believing your life depends on any specific thing or person. Being more flexible and less attached will make it easier to embrace change.

What’s the Worst That Could Happen?

Ask yourself: if I decided to change (name the specific change), what’s the worst that could happen? If it happened, could I still manage? In most cases, you’ll find that the worst isn’t as bad as you think and you’ll definitely be able to cope. So, is it worth staying in a worse situation and maintaining the status quo?

As Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, said some 2500 years ago: “There is nothing permanent except change.” Although the quote is centuries old, its truth applies as much today and will continue to do so forever. View changes as opportunities from which you can benefit, and don’t focus on the comfort that comes from the old path you tread. Find the strength and courage to change, and you will see that the universe will support you throughout your new adventure.
