Supernatural Illness

Below are excerpts from Wanda Pratnicka's book
"Possessed by Ghosts - Exorcisms in 21st Century"

When someone dies as a result of some illness then death does not automatically free them from the disease. After death they are ill in the same way as they were when alive. Though when they die they leaves their physical body in the grave, they takes with them all the other bodies including the one where the illness is written down. Only when they pass through to the other side of death's curtain are they subjected to a cure. This, let us call it, quarantine lasts just as long as the person's state demands. If their mental state demands a longer time then that is what they get, till they are completely cured. It is treated individually, depending on the person's needs. It happens only if we pass through to the other side of death's curtain. If the person, for whatever reasons, resolves not to pass through to the Light, then they remain in the world of ghosts with all their mental and physical afflictions. The disease which was the cause of death exists within them just as it did when they were alive. It will afflict them for just as long as they continue to exist on this side of death's curtain. If they passed through to the Light they would be cured, by remaining they continue to be ill.

When someone we love and are close is dying after a long and serious illness, we are incredibly sad. We want them to stay with us for as long as possible. We are afraid that we may never see them again. Though this isn't true, at such moments we don't really want to know it or remember it. Finally, the moment of death approaches. We feel very bad, our heart bleeds from despair and we're often in no state to let them go from us. It's quite frequently the case that we want to die together with the person we love. At such a moment we are in pain and indifferent to everything, we don't have a healthy outlook on things and we lose our instinct for self-preservation.

This is a very crucial moment which will decide the fate of the departing soul and our own. Why? There are many reasons. One of them is the fact that we cling on to that soul, we don't want to let it go, and the soul, unable to free itself and to leave, will be forced to stay behind.(...)

Many people have no objection to having someone close to them who has died possessing them. In the first moment they feel happy, they like supernatural talk with them, they want to keep them by their sides for as long as possible.(...)

When a ghost penetrates us or one of the members of the household it is, to begin with, almost imperceptible and like supernatural. Our character may change a little but, because we are still thinking about the dead person, we do not notice it. It may be that people around us will notice before we do that something isn't quite right, like supernatural. We notice it only at the end, if, that is, it comes into our heads at all. Even if everyone around us mentions it we will deny it and the ghost will help us to do that. The truth is that it will be the ghost who will be doing the denying, questioning and doubting what others say. This takes place only in our minds. In time we will doubt what others say more and more. Indeed, what can our near ones tell us? That within us there is, for instance, our dead grandfather? That seems to us like supernatural. He knows that he continues to live though it is through our lives, so he must deny everything. This isn't a question of the ghost's malevolence, although that can happen, too, but looking at the matter from two different points of view. For us the ghost is not alive which for the ghost is an evident untruth. That's why it will forcibly deny it.

Aspects of the ghost's character may be but if it was suffering from some disease before its death then similar symptoms will start to appear in us. Doctors will often explain such an occurrence by calling it a family or genetic predisposition. In reality you could name the cause supernatural. Such diseases are considered to be family illnesses because, for the sake of argument, a grandmother will have had heart troubles but having died she didn't go through to the other side and entered her daughter. She, in turn, accepted her mother most willingly as a result of which she herself developed a heart disease and shortly thereafter died. Now her son became ill with heart disease. If we look at this chain of events from the standpoint of conventional medicine we may well be satisfied with the explanation that this is a hereditary disease. If, however, we look at the case more closely we will notice that it's not hereditary at all that it is more like supernatural. The kind of illness is of no significance.(...)

One of a pair of identical twins fell ill with cancer. He was a young, unusually good-looking man: it was heart-breaking to watch him dying so quickly. The illness lasted less than six months. In the spring he had been promoted to a crack army regiment and before Christmas he was dead. When he joined the army he underwent a medical examination which showed that he was perfectly fit. By the time I was asked to help he had been through several operations and was in the last stages of the disease. I discovered that the cause of the illness was the ghost of his uncle who had not so long ago died of cancer. The young man ridiculed my diagnosis, called it rubbish. He was of the view that his uncle had loved him so much when he was alive that he couldn't possibly harm him. He was unswayed by any persuasion. For me, his attitude was quite comprehensible, I'd often come across similarly strong resistance from my clients. The family, however, continued to look to me for support and renewed their pleas for help particularly since every time I escorted the uncle off the client's state of health improved radically. The doctors in the hospital noticed it, too, and were very perplexed by the changes in him - from healthy to sick. It would probably have been possible to save the young man if he had wanted it, too. That's not to say he wanted to die. He wanted to live but in a situation which was so difficult for him he looked for safety in the wrong place. Instead of trusting himself into God's hands, he gave himself up to his uncle's ghost. Whenever I escorted the uncle off, the young man drew him back to himself. He was incapable of believing in life, in recovery and whenever the pain became intense he always cried out loud: "Uncle, help me!" His family, which sat with him day and night, tried to restrain him. They tried all sorts of ways to persuade him not to do it. His twin brother was the first in the family to understand what was happening in all this and was the most strongly engaged in helping his brother. Unfortunately, the boy could not be saved. He died.

Very shortly after his death a tumor was noticed in the other twin. This twin, however, had acquired knowledge through his experience during his brother's sickness and he turned to me for help. After a thorough examination it transpired that his recently dead brother had entered him as had his uncle. Even though he suffered greatly and missed his dead brother, he was in no hurry to die. He very much wanted to live and obediently did everything I asked him to. Not only did he not hamper my work, he himself tried to convince the ghosts to leave him in peace. But they stubbornly wanted to take him to their world. It was clearly evident when the ghosts departed and when they returned because the tumor, just like in his twin brother, appeared and then, when the ghosts departed, quickly vanished. This went on for several weeks, the ghosts returned less and less frequently until one day they did not return at all. Even though this was the same disease suffered by his brother, he did not follow the dead man's footsteps. Even though the doctors tried to persuade him, he did not submit to any operations or radiotherapy regardless of the fact that his disease progressed just as quickly as his brother's had. He stood up against the ghosts and he won because he knew that his problem was that he was visited by sick ghosts. That's not to say that he didn't love his brother. He loved him very much indeed, but he did not want to die at such a young age. Added to which he was aware of the fact that it was very likely indeed that he would be the cause of illness in the next living person. He won not only for himself, although he was the most important person there, but also for his family and for the ghosts who were imposing themselves on him.

If the second brother had not been saved, then this instance of the illness would have been explained as being hereditary and everyone would have anxiously asked who the next victim would be. In my practice I have seen many cases that subvert the theory of hereditary diseases. The fact that a disease affects several members of the same family does not mean to say that it is hereditary. When the ghosts have been escorted away it may leave for ever. I do not, however, want to give false hope where it is not appropriate and that's why I state clearly that not every illness is caused by ghosts. It can happen that even when all the ghosts affecting a family have been escorted away the illness continues. The client and their family may feel aggrieved. What has to be taken into account, though, is that even then the client is still in a much better situation than previously. They are free of ghosts and so have a lot more energy to combat the disease. Before then what was happening was that the client was struggling against the disease while at the same time being burdened by one or several ghosts who were constantly drawing the energy out of them. Now, though the client is still fighting the disease, they are free from that added burden.(...)

When we are completely well ghosts have no way into us; if, however, we let just one infiltrate us then others have an open road in. There can be a multitude of them. I mentioned earlier that when, during its life, a ghost suffered from some disease then the person possessed by it will suffer from the same disease. In this way many diseases can find a home in the same person. Some ghosts can be stronger than others just as some people are stronger than others in life. When a ghost takes control over a person's body the disease will appear along with the domination. It can be that, inside a person, there is a constant battle being waged to decide who will be controlling the body. In such a situation first one ghost rules, then another. The person may not be aware of what's happening, but his acquaintances will notice that the same person is quiet one moment, then exuberant, then again another time prey to attacks of rage. We say that such a person has mood swings. When they occur frequently or when we can't control them then that can be a reason to consider if we haven't been possessed by ghosts.(...)
