Time slips through our fingers like sand in an hourglass. The older we get, the more we realize how swiftly it passes. One moment, we're teenagers navigating high school corridors, and in the blink of an eye, we find ourselves reminiscing in retirement. Such rapid transitions force us into contemplation—How have we lived so far? How are we living right now?
In this post, I want to share something profoundly important: the power of being fully present, cherishing today, and appreciating the life we have.
We have an unfortunate habit of living anywhere but here—constantly revisiting old memories or projecting ourselves into an imagined future. Rarely do we exist in the now. Our thoughts either replay events long gone, trying to revive what can never return, or they drift toward a future that, in truth, is nothing more than a mirage.
And so, life flows past us like a river, while we remain trapped in our minds, lost in stories that no longer exist or have yet to unfold.
Some people spend their days endlessly revisiting wounds—a betrayal, a loss, a moment of humiliation. The ego, insatiable and relentless, feasts on this pain. It replays those moments like a broken record, savoring the bitterness anew each time. What happened years ago is gone, yet in their minds, it’s as fresh as if it were happening now. And because they feed it energy, in a way, it is happening now.
Others live in a dreamscape, constructing grand plans for a brighter tomorrow. "One day, things will be better," they tell themselves. They talk endlessly about their visions, yet never take a step toward making them real. Hope becomes their lullaby, lulling them into inaction. And so, time is squandered, energy dissipates, and life remains unchanged. Ask yourself this: Is it worth wasting your precious energy on what no longer exists or what has yet to come? Every morning, the universe grants you a fresh supply of energy—just for today. How you spend it is entirely up to you.
Imagine being handed $100 every morning, knowing you must use it by sunset. Some squander it mindlessly, letting it slip away. Others invest it wisely, enriching their lives. Energy functions in the same way. Every single day, you receive a new dose—will you invest it in regret, anxiety, and illusion, or will you use it to create something beautiful today?
The only reality that truly exists is this moment. Life unfolds now, not yesterday, not tomorrow. That’s why presence is the most valuable state of being. How can you cultivate presence?
I recently watched an interview with an 80-year-old psychologist who is frequently invited to retreats to speak about happiness. When asked to summarize her decades of knowledge into a single sentence, she responded with words of profound wisdom: "Focus on what you have. Do not focus on what you lack."
These words hold immense power because they instantly shift our awareness back to the present. They force us to see all that we can be grateful for—things we often take for granted until they are gone. Instead of lamenting over past events, accept them. Let go. Forgive those involved—including yourself. Instead of daydreaming about a utopian future, see the beauty in today. This day—this very moment—will never come again. It is a gift, and that’s precisely why we call it the present. Imagine how differently you would live if you saw today as the most precious gift. How much more would you cherish even the smallest, most seemingly insignificant moments? How would it feel to treat this day as something sacred?
I know that many of you reading this struggle with spirit possession, and the present moment might feel unbearable—even excruciating. One way to escape the pain is to detach from the now, keeping yourself occupied or numbing yourself with distractions.
I understand your suffering. But for how long will you continue running? How much of life will be lost in avoidance? Perhaps it's time to pause, take a deep breath, and reclaim your power. Time is too precious to spend it suffering. And you deserve more than an existence built on pain.
The past is gone, the future is uncertain, but this moment is yours to embrace. Instead of dwelling on what was or what could be, choose to fully experience the present, for it is the only place where life truly happens. No matter what challenges you face, remember—every breath is an opportunity to start anew.
