One of the primary reasons people achieve less than they’re capable of is a lack of belief in their own abilities. The extent to which you believe in yourself and your greatness directly determines how much you can accomplish in life. Small thinking yields small results; those who think poorly of themselves are unlikely to achieve great things.
Your life is a mirror of how much you value yourself and believe in your abilities. Look around: your living conditions, earnings, and how others treat you all reflect the level of faith you have in yourself and your self-worth. If you’re living in poverty or constantly undervalued by others, don’t be harsh on yourself. It’s never too late to change. Stop making excuses that something is unachievable. Focusing only on goals that seem easy to reach shows a lack of daring dreams. Dream big—even of what seems impossible. This is what all “great people” do. Despite numerous challenges and failures, they remain steadfast, believe in their strength, and persist.
Deep faith not only propels you toward your goals but also keeps you calm amidst failures. True belief eliminates fear. You can’t feel faith and fear simultaneously; one cancels the other.
Sometimes, we’re so accustomed to feeling small that we carry ourselves with slouched shoulders and grim expressions, constantly settling for less. Perhaps you were raised in a home where poverty was glorified, or you were taught not to stand out, that the world is dangerous, and certain things are only for the chosen few. You likely know someone (or perhaps you’re that person) who’s incredibly talented but uses only a fraction of their potential due to low self-esteem and lack of belief in their abilities.
This situation resembles a tiger that thinks it’s a chicken. Despite having the body of a predator, with speed, strength, and sharp teeth, the tiger eats scraps because it mistakenly believes it’s a chicken. Similarly, many of us live “chicken lives” while possessing the strength of a tiger. Thinking you’re inferior or incapable lowers your value and paralyzes your potential, just like the tiger in this story.
But it doesn’t have to stay this way! Starting today, you can take small steps toward significant, positive changes. Small steps are essential because attempting giant leaps at the beginning can feel overwhelming.
Moreover, your ego is more likely to resist big changes, leading you to give up quickly. Be prepared for your ego to replay familiar doubts: “You’re not good enough,” “It’ll never work,” “Why bother trying?” “I’ve failed so many times,” “I’m too old,” or “I’m not smart enough.”
Despite these internal voices, continue to work on believing in yourself and raising your self-worth. As your self-value grows, so will the opportunities and positive changes around you. Suddenly, you’ll meet the right people at the right time, have brilliant ideas, or come across articles that guide you forward.
Marianne Williamson’s words come to mind: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’”
So, dare to love yourself more. Dare to believe in the power you already possess within. Dare to ask for better things in life. Dare to fulfill your desires. Dare to share your opinions. Dare to walk tall and confident. Dare to dream boldly—and life will transform for the better.
