It is certainly possible for a beloved deceased person to possess us. In fact, spirit possession primarily occurs after the death of a loved one. As happens during one’s lifetime, our relationship with a loved one can vary, but in general we deal with two types of emotional relationships--positive or negative. Relationships of a relatively indifferent kind are not important to us, as they are rarely the cause of spirit possession.
As we know from previous posts and books, a spirit can attach to us only if we have something in common with it, so we are attracted to each other. Most often this will be a character trait manifested by a specific emotion. We will first discuss relationships based on negative emotions.
Usually, the deceased individual who is possessing us was emotionally similar to us. This is because we are born into families that provide us with the greatest opportunities for spiritual growth. After our loved one's death, the emotions we shared while they were alive can become a force that attracts the deceased's spirit to us and, conversely, our soul to them.
For example, suppose the emotion we share with the spirit is anger. In this case a great deal of this emotion exists in our emotional body, and it will be a magnet attracting identical emotions. At the time that a person leaves the physical body, they sometimes choose to stay close to the physical world. This is often because they are afraid of the unknown and are extremely attached to the material world.
In such a case, the spirit usually regroups their emotional body (more on this in the book In the Wheel of Life, Volume 2). The result is that their most acutely negative emotions will be on the outside of their emotional body. The closer they get to the inside, the softer and less negative the emotions will become. Thus, the outside will contain the strongest negative emotion, in this case anger. The spirit will perceive the entire world through the prism of anger; it will see and feel anger everywhere. It will no longer be able to experience different emotional states. Instead, it will live and understand the world solely through the vibration of anger.
If the living person has the same emotion as the spirit, then the two will begin to attract each other like magnets. At first, the living will find that their anger is strongly reinforced by the spirit's emotion. This will happen whenever the person allows the spirit to get close to them.
The person will begin to feel anger, but it will be many times stronger than their habitual anger. This is because the spirit is under the influence of the powerful anger of the emotional world. The emotions of the emotional world have been built up over eons by all people living now and previously on Earth, and these emotions are extremely powerful. Just think of how many of the world’s eight billion people get angry every day. This energy does not disappear; it only accumulates. The spirit will therefore transfer this very strong energy to the person with whom it is in contact.
It is a bit like a good friend who we are scheduled to meet that day. We got up that morning rested and especially happy. We were eager to get ready and left the house full of excitement. It turns out that our friend is in a particularly bad mood on this day.
His car broke down, and in order to meet us he had to take several modes of public transportation, which cost him an extra three hours of his time. In addition, a drunk man fell on him on the bus, because of which the friend hurt his forehead. He appeared at our meeting holding a handkerchief to his head. He was full of rage and complained about his bad luck and the drunk man on the bus. The moment we met, in a split second all our previous wonderful mood and contentment disappeared. The friend emanated such intense emotions after his unpleasant day that his mood now became ours.
This short story is meant to illustrate to you, dear reader, how much other people's emotions are transferred to us. However, remember that the spirit's influence on us is much stronger than that of our irritated friend. For the spirit transfers the rage of all humanity to us, not just its own emotion. If we are not attentive and allow these emotions to increasingly influence us, the spirit gets close enough to us to be able to end up possessing us. You can read about how this manifests HERE.
Under normal circumstances, it is much easier to attract the spirit of someone close to you than a stranger. Our subconscious always reacts with distrust when a stranger approaches us. In the case of a person known to us, such distrust does not exist. This is because we remember this person from our everyday, physical experience. We know who they are, and we are usually not afraid of them. Then contact is much easier, and the influence of the spirit is stronger.
In the next post, we will discuss a different kind of situation, in which the original emotions connecting the spirit and the living person were of a positive nature. As we will see, this type of situation is paradoxically much more difficult for the living individual. This is because it is difficult for someone to withstand the influence of someone deceased who they actually like.
