How Do You Cope When a Loved One Is Possessed by Spirits?

Living with, or even having sporadic interactions with, a person who is possessed by spirits constitutes a formidable challenge. This entry is crafted to offer encouragement to those who have encountered the possession of their beloved ones. The lives of these dear ones have turned upside down, leaving both the possessed individual and those around them at a loss on how to cope.

The Emotional Rollercoaster of Spirit Possession

Beloved individuals may, seemingly overnight, start exhibiting behaviors radically different from their usual selves. Their emotions become akin to a rollercoaster, affecting not just them but everyone who comes into even brief contact with them.

A deceased person's soul, for reasons various and sundry, has attached itself to our loved one, sending them intense negative emotions—anger, rage, hatred, fear, shame, sorrow, self-pity, depression, among others. This results in an emotional instability in our dear one, as they are unable to handle the sheer intensity of emotions being hurled at them by the spirit.

Those who harbor deep feelings for the possessed individual find this situation particularly challenging. The negative emotions directed at us feel like daggers aimed at our hearts, and perplexingly, they always hit their mark. We wonder how our loved one could possibly hurt us so, yet it's not them but the spirit accompanying them that does. In such scenarios, our openness becomes a source of suffering. The strength of the negative impact might even motivate us to draw towards us a defender as fierce and intense in its emanation as the one manipulating our beloved, that is, a ruthless spirit. The temptation to do so is significant because we feel the entire injustice of the situation, and the longer it persists, the more we want to retaliate with the same that our beloved sends our way.

The Dire Consequences of Seeking a Fierce Defender

This is the worst strategy of all, for those who wish to have a cruel defender will ultimately become possessed themselves and suffer as much as our beloved does. You might say, "But I am already suffering..."—true, but the aforementioned alternative will make you suffer far more. Always remember—the cruelty you experience from your loved one does not emanate from them but from the spirit that has latched onto them.

Above all, it is essential to understand that this situation is saturated with suffering—ours, our loved ones', and paradoxically, most of all, the possessing spirits themselves. These spirits directly experience the powerful negative emotions of the astral/emotional world. We, the living, still have physical bodies that dampen most of this negative emanation, yet sometimes it feels like we have been plunged alive into hell, from which we see no escape.

We mentioned earlier that the injustice we feel is only apparent. Everything that happens in our lives is no accident. Every situation, whether joyful and thus positive or filled with suffering and thus negative, is a result of our karmic record. Everything we have ever released from our energetic system in the form of thoughts, emotions, words, or actions returns to us with mathematical precision, augmented by elements of the same kind. This is the law of karma, worth delving into in detail to prevent our own suffering in the future. From this perspective, the situation is not unjust; we only receive back what we have previously given to others. Who knows if, in a previous incarnation, we did not burden our loved ones, perhaps even the same people we live with now, with similar sufferings stemming from the fact that we were possessed by spirits, and they were not.

How Do You Cope When a Loved One Is Possessed by Spirits?

The entire situation is further complicated by the fact that knowledge about spirit possession and its symptoms is not sufficiently widespread. The reasons for this can be found in the history of exorcisms and the Inquisition, which the Catholic Church initiated in Spain nearly 1000 years ago (details on this can be found in one of the final chapters (“Exorcisms”) of Wanda Pratnicka's book "Possessed by Ghosts"). Hence, our center's primary goal is to disseminate this knowledge, so our generation and future ones do not have to go through such immense suffering. Knowing the cause, we can relatively easily eliminate this problem through the process of cleansing (aka spirit removal) from deceased spirits. Although such therapy is not 100% effective, as there will always be people who, for one reason or another, deep in their subconscious still wish to be connected to spirits, regardless of the "costs" of such a relationship, and will attract them immediately after they have been led away. However, most people who seek our help are ready to leave the dark realm of negativity, work on their emotions, and start living without this enormous burden.

The mere knowledge of the symptoms of spirit possession is thus of great value in society, as anyone who possesses it can recognize the phenomenon of spirit possession in others. However, a word of caution—most often, those suffering from the effects of a possession are not yet ready to learn about it. The knowledge we possess, therefore, must be dosed very carefully, so that the possessing spirit (and with it, the possessed person) does not plunge into immediate panic the moment we mention spirit possession. For the spirit, the discovery of its presence in someone haunted by someone from the outside or by the haunted person themselves is associated with a mortal threat. What will the spirit do when it is led away from a person and no longer has a source of energy? It believes it will die. This fear is unfounded, as a soul cannot die, but the spirit, at least for the moment, operates on a very low level of consciousness and is driven solely by survival instinct, not the recognition of its higher nature.
